Laura Emdee Explains the LA County / Redondo Beach Fire Department Study

The issue surrounding the Redondo Beach Fire Department and LA County Fire Department is complex. The Redondo Beach Fire Department is designated as a Class 1 Fire Department by the Insurance Services Office. Less than 1% of all fire departments in the country receive a Class 1 rating.

Based on the report, it appears Redondo residents will pay more to get much less we contract with LA County. The County contract is proposing a reduction of dedicated staff located inside the City. In the proposal some staff will be shared resources with surrounding cities.

Once we lose our local fire department, it is gone so this is an important decision. Please email your city council, submit a comment or attend on via Zoom.
