“It’s for educational purposes” is a phrase uttered at teaching hospitals on a daily basis. It is incumbent upon society to train future physicians, however, the medical education community must be intentional about doing right by their patients. In this episode, I review an interesting consult I received. Names and information has been changed to respect patient privacy. The case centers around informed consent, medical education and power-dynamics within a physician-patient relationship.
Have you encountered any ethical dilemmas? Visit my website and leave a request for consultation. I will review and discuss within a week and you may be featured on the show (anonymously of course).
What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you. Either leave a comment on iTunes or send me a message on my blog site, Steven Bradley MD.com
We hope that generating discussions on Clinical Medical Ethics and Culturally Competent Care will have a positive impact on the lives of disenfranchised patients.
