FOLLOW ALONG AS WE COVER:

(4:07) – Black models boycotted Melbourne Fashion Week due to racism in Australian fashion industry. The models shared that they’ve seen staff use racial slurs in front of them, and hairdressers are not shy when it comes to making derogatory and degrading comments about their hair. Two models said they discovered they were grossly underpaid compared to their white counterparts.

(7:47) – It’s the Amanda Seales Show, I’m Amanda Seales… And now it’s time for a segment, we’re calling “Voting and Venting.”

Voter apathy is a serious issue in the Black community for numerous reasons, like, ya know, voter disenfranchisement! But I personally believe that with more historical knowledge and current information, our belief in the political system can be restored. In this segment, we’re gonna vent a little, but also weigh in on some important voting matters with experts.

(11:04) – 60 Second Headlines

Story 1: Today areas of West Maui will reopen to tourism following the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century.

Story 2: More than two months after white boaters attacked a Black riverboat captain in Montgomery, Ala., two of the five people charged in the Alabama Brawl have pleaded guilty.

Story 3: The next installment of National Geographic’s GENIUS franchise will focus on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and how their dueling philosophies helped usher America through the Civil Rights Movement. The eight-part series “Genius: MLK/X” will premiere in February on the National Geographic channel.

Story 4: The Michigan Attorney General’s Office is officially ending its pursuit of criminal prosecutions over the Flint Water Crisis after 7 years of no convictions. The Flint prosecution team says the cases are now closed.

Story 5: According to Forbes…Magic Johnson is officially a billionaire, becoming the fourth athlete to earn that title.

(16:44) – Coming up this hour in Blackurate News: One HBCU is stepping up in the lives of inmates. We’ll tell you how. That’s not my ministry with Rita Brent plus, today’s Big Up/Let Down starring Lauryn Hill and a former NBA basketball player.

(18:30) – Bowie State University is the first HBCU to offer Maryland inmates the opportunity to complete study courses. Students can get their degree while behind bars, all thanks to a partnership between Bowie State and Jessup Correctional Institute. Since the initiative launched this year, seven men who are studying to obtain either a bachelor’s degree or Entrepreneurship certificate have completed their first semester.

(21:57) – That’s not my ministry with Rita Brent.

(26:00) – Big Up – Goes to Lauryn Hill’s fans for sticking beside her! Recently announced she is postponing her Fort Worth Tour Date To “Rest The Voice” due to vocal strain. She’s had a history of showing up late to shows and performing for a brief time. Fans continue to buy tickets, support, and root her on. Side note: Beyonce did 50-11 shows domestically and internationally, while being a mom, dancing hard AF, dropping a perfume line, and didn’t complain about vocal or body strain. Maybe Lauryn needs to be on her diet OR let the crowd sing the lyrics.

Let Down – To Joe Smith and his wife for doing a live advertisement on Twitter, thinking we wouldn’t figure it out! His longtime partner posted a video of him reacting in real time to her saying she has an Only Fans account. She continued to record him despite his visible anger; it all bordered disrespect for the sake of clout.

(29:29) – We’ll go to the phone lines.

(31:42) – Coming up this hour… Khia says she isn’t like the new rap girls. Letoya Luckett will join us for “Back of the Class”. We’ll go Black around the world and we’ve got a Blop Quiz… Issa Black Pop Quiz that’s what it is.

(33:49) – Recently the rapper, Khia, made waves when she had this to say about people comparing her to the new class of female rappers.

(38:16) – Back of the Class w/ Latoya Luckett.

(42:59) – It’s a Black Pop Quiz what it is!

(46:49) – We’ll go back to the phonelines.

(50:45) – Word of the Day – Eldritch.

(54:53) – Politicians say the darnedest things.
