Carla B. Monteiro earned an Associate’s degree in Human Services and a Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate from Quincy College, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Bridgewater State University, and a Master’s degree in Social Work at Boston College. Carla is a member of the National Association of Black Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers, MA-Chapter. She is the Founder and President of the Cape Verdean Social Workers Association. In 2019, Carla was appointed as one of 277 elected delegates for the National Association of Social Workers Delegate Assembly slate for Massachusetts. She currently serves as an At-Large Delegate. She was also a mentor (Big Sister) with the Big Sisters Association of Greater Boston.
Carla is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who works as an Addictions Clinical Social Worker at the Bridge Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. And is an Emergency Psychiatric Clinical Social Worker at Boston Children’s Hospital. Carla previously worked with incarcerated men and women at the Suffolk County House of Correction and Nashua Street Jail. In May 2019, Carla was the honoree for the “Future of Social Work Award” by the National Association of Social Workers-Massachusetts Chapter. In 2020, she was honored with the Alfred J. Gomes Award from Bridgewater State University and the 40 Under 40 Award from the Boston Business Journal. In 2021, she was recognized as one of Boston’s Most Impactful Black Women by Get Konnected. Carla is passionate about community investment and displays that in her efforts to support them through advocacy and direct service. Carla is a racial and social justice advocate who leads with integrity and equity at the forefront.
