A 36-year-old woman was reportedly kidnapped, raped, and chained up in a house for days before being rescued by a good Samaritan who heard her screams for help. Antoine Dobine told WLS-TV he was walking near 119th Street and Eggleston Avenue on Saturday, May 21, on Chicago’s South Side when he heard the victim’s cries. Dobine said he asked the woman if there was anyone in there with her, and he called 911. Police arrived at the scene and “said her legs were chained and her hands were handcuffed.”
At a Monday, May 23, news conference, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said, “We are bringing all of our resources to bear in bringing this offender to justice.” Brendan Deenihan, chief of detectives, added, “We are working with the victim to try to get a better description of the defendant.”
She was reportedly chained up in the home for four to five days. The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation and praised Dobine for finding her. WLS reports the victim is homeless and is known around the neighborhood. One neighbor said the home where she was found has been vacant for 25 years.
