In this episode, Michelle and Ekemini are sitting at the table with Shelly McLean. Shelly is a Registered Nurse who has been in practice for 7 years. She is a Certified Medical Surgical Nurse with a diverse background in various medical specialties, but is currently practicing full-time at one of the largest emergency rooms in NYC. Shelly also works part-time at a smaller emergency room in the suburbs of New Jersey. She was recently accepted to SUNY Downstate Medical Center's Family Nurse Practitioner program, where she will begin her pursuit of a Masters degree in nursing beginning this fall. Shelly has a passion for social reform topics such as the effects of implicit bias in healthcare on patients of color and other vulnerable populations, and often refers to herself as "The Black Nightingale." Pull up a chair and have a seat at the table with us!
