Who Deserves the Death Penalty? | MiniPod

Host Bakari Sellers knew he was against the death penalty–until white supremacist Dylann Roof killed 9 people at the African Methodist Episocpal Church in Charleston, South Carolina during a bible study. 

According to the Death Penalty Information Center, Black Americans are 7.5 times more likely to be wrongfully convicted of murder than whites. The Equal Justice Initiative has shown that for every 8 people executed on death row, 1 is exonerated. At times, maybe death is justice, but the administration of that justice is problematic, particularly in a racist justice system. 

Our hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari talk each other through complicated feelings around capital punishment.
