Moreover, women are encouraged to be proactive advocates for their own health, which includes but is not limited to; seeking providers who specialize in midlife care, incorporating weight-bearing exercises, and balance activities into daily routines.  Following a regiment of that nature can lay the groundwork for resilient bones.

 

Dr. Kristi Tough DeSapri is a board-certified internist and clinical assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and internal medicine at Northwestern Medicine. She specializes in midlife women’s health, including perimenopause, menopause, and bone health. Her practice is highly specialized, providing focused attention to issues that can be overlooked in general physical exams. She recognizes the pivotal role women play in their communities, families, and workplaces, and tailors her care to meet their unique needs. She currently serves as the Director of the Northwestern Medicine Women’s Bone Health Program, dedicated to preventing and treating osteoporosis for women to lead healthy, fracture-free lives.
