Dr. Allissa Richardson an Richardson is an assistant professor of journalism at the University Southern California, Annenberg School. She researches how marginalized communities use mobile and social media to produce innovative forms of journalism — especially in times of crisis.
Most recently, she has taken ownership of the title, “Mother of MOJO”, Mother of Mobile Journalism.
She also shares her oftentimes challenging journey to becoming a tenure-track journalism professor after many obstacles at a historically black college/university (HBCU) where she held her first job at the tender age of 24.
Finally, in case you haven’t heard, she recently published a book explaining African Americans’ use of smartphones to help provide witness in the fight against police brutality.
