This week Blue & Liz sit down in conversation with Sharon Brown, a health & wellness expert, vegan chef, community organizer, activist & phenomenal Black woman based out of Martha’s Vineyard.
In Part 1 of this interview series Sharon Discusses her role as chief operating officer of Martha’s Vineyard Vegan Society where she teaches her community about eating healthy and distributes free food to the community every month.
Sharon is also the director of the Island Food Pantry where she feeds and cares for her community, the full time residents of the island. Every week the pantry provides free food, supplies and pet food for up to 500 people a week. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free options are available. Over the lockdown, Sharon began operating a farm to provide even more good food to Martha’s Vineyard!
Martha’s Vineyard’s full-time residents are displaced from their homes twice a year during the tourist season. This tourist season Sharon is raising awareness of the community’s struggles, part of her long term work to improve the lives of Martha’s Vineyard’s most marginalized people.
