Did you know that employment helps to reduce symptoms for people who live with a mental illness and/or substance use disorder? Many may not see the benefits of employment in their recovery and/or are fearful of losing their SSI and//or SSDI benefits. Yes, people who live with a disability such as a mental or substance use disorder, or intellectual disability can work and are reliable.
Kea is joined by Kierstyn Silver, Director of the Maryland Employment who explains why employment is so vital in one's recovery especially for individuals who receive disability benefits. Keirstyn has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner, as well as a Community Partner Work Incentive Counselor. She has nearly a decade of providing and supervising behavioral health and evidence-based supported employment services. Keirstyn oversees the daily operations, communications, services and marketing of the Maryland Employment Network. Keirstyn’s creativity, attention to detail and collaborative spirit help her to lead a high-quality program that is both innovative and growing.
