Following in her family members footsteps, Aquita joined the Army and became a part of the Quartermaster Corps. Subsequently, as a means of furthering her military career, Aquita decided to volunteer to fill the coveted role of becoming a drill sergeant. In this role, she was responsible for training over 6,000 men and women while on the trail. Little did she know she would go on to make history by becoming the first Female Infantry Senior Drill Sergeant in her battalion’s history.
