The show opens up with Monica, who is everywhere on your TV, discussing her upbringing in the DMV falling in love with sports through her father. With her father being a well-known basketball official/ coach, she began to hone her skills in the sport eventually leading to a scholarship at Georgetown University. EJ and Monica discussed the legendary coach Big John Thompson and his impact on the university. While at Georgetown, the self described shooter talked with MH about the playing in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and nearly beating the famed UConn Husky Women’s basketball program.
Monica moved on from shooting her shot on the court to off the court. With a bachelor’s in journalism from Georgetown University, Monica continued to develop her natural and technical skills by enrolling in a Broadcast Journalism Master’s program at the University of Maryland. The practicing journalist is currently on the MSG Network. MH and Monica discussed the surprise success of the 2020 – 2021 New York Knicks and the outlook for the 21-22 season. From MSG, the conversation moves to ESPN’s Around the Horn. Monica described the energy and family like atmosphere of the Around the Horn crew, she also described a version of Tony Reali away from the television screen.
EJ and MH both gave Monica her flowers and described how important and inspirational Monica is to many Black men and women. Monica discussed the importance of being true to who she is as a person and the hurdles she still battles in her career as she continues to move up the ladder. Finally, Monica discussed her next goals in her career, which includes a sit down with DMV native Kevin Durant and covering the NBA as a color analyst.
