Black in Sports Podcast welcomes Amin Elhassan on this episode. Amin takes EJ and MH through the journey that started as part time marketing employee of the Atlanta Hawks to a lead star in sports journalism through ESPN days.
“Who knows we may get to go to some games for free.” While being a student at Georgia Tech University, Amin joined the Hawks as a part-time field marketer, going from mall to mall promoting the Atlanta Hawks and giving tickets to prospective fans. He then moved in arena and where his initial meeting with former Detroit Piston Rick Mahorn knocking boxes out his hand. In his transition from the marketing side of the business, Amin earned a sports management degree from University of Arizona and eventually landed a intern spot with New York Knicks. At that position he learned the “language of the NBA” amongst player personnel decision makers which led him back to Arizona with the Phoenix Suns. With Phoenix he worked with NBA greats including Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Shaquille O’Neal and Jerry Colangelo.
From NBA front office to ESPN. Amin described his start into the sports media business. He discussed how his experience as an NBA executive gave and learning from some greats gave him special insight on the NBA from a media standpoint. With no experience or initial desire to be in sports media, Amin wrote a piece for ESPN and discovered he was “good at this.” He also touched on his unique take on current Phoenix Suns Head Coach Monty Willams during Quick Hits segment.
In the winners circle segment, Amin touched on his current podcast “Cinephobe Count The Dings.” The podcast where Amin is joined by Zach Harper and Anthony Mayes where they review movies that are poorly rated on Rotten Tomatoes. Also, from “Count The Dings” Amin has starred in “Black Opinions Matter Mother******”. Lastly, Amin’s take on Kanye West, Hilarious! Tune in.
