This week we're welcoming Dr. Lyneia Richardson to the podcast. Dr. Richardson is a mama, healer, and psychologist dedicated to helping melanated women and mamas find ways to reconnect to their mind, body, and spirit. She has worked with a variety of clinical populations over the course of her training and professional experience. Dr. Richardson received her B.A. in psychology from North Carolina A & T State University, M.S. in mental health counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Her clinical approach is integrative and holistic, placing special emphasis on interpersonal processing. Her clinical and research interests center around women’s issues from the African diaspora in the context of race, gender, and culture. Following the birth of her first-born child, Dr. Richardson shifted her clinical focus to maternal mental health. She works to offer a sacred space with her clients where the stigma surrounding how one “should” feel or be following childbirth, being a mother, a wife, a woman etc. is broken. Her ultimate goal is to support and uplift melanated women—mentally, physically, and and spiritually.
