Episode 15: Do you have a Black child in school? Dr. Carla Monroe’s research has centered around black lives, and, in particular, young Black boys in education. She discusses how Black children’s behavior is addressed in more punitive ways than other young children. In addition, she shares with us her journey of teaching.
Dr. Monroe now works with research and grants at her university and loves it. Before that, though, she was a secondary teacher. She’s not new to the academy.
Some key takeaways:
Carla is not big on social media. She calls herself more of a reader and a “nerd.” She can be reached at crmonroe@ncsu.edu
