When Denise Woodard’s one-year-old daughter, Vivienne, had a bad allergic reaction to a snack in their family living room, the scary incident changed their family’s life. Just months later, Denise entered a pitch competition, won and quickly founded her company Partake Foods, which offers allergy-friendly cookies that were inspired by her daughter’s experience with food allergies. Today, Partake Foods is making its way to shelves around the country, including Whole Foods, and Denise has raised $1 million in capital for the business — a huge and unfortunately still too rare feat for women of color entrepreneurs.

On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Denise talks about taking inspired action, starting where you are and doing your research (thank you, Google), plus what it really means to go “all in” on your dreams and what it’s really like to raise $1 million for your business.
