Strange Fruit

podcast December 31, 1969

Background

Ekemini, Christina and Michelle discuss the haunting realities of being Black in America in the past and present. This episode is inspired by the necessary lament of the lyrics from "Strange Fruit", originally a poem by Abel Meeropol, performed by Billie Holiday. The ladies weep over and give stern warnings against anti-Blackness, especially as we head into July 4th celebrations. With a recommendation to remember and re-learn the fruits of God's Holy Spirit, the midwives at Truth's Table invite their listeners to take a hard look at the seeds we are planting, and the evidence we bear.
