The Real History of Hip-Hop & Media’s AI Future With Damion ‘Darizza’ Young podcast
This is the “Check in” episode of The Locker Room episode of, hosts MH & EJ bring the barbershop vibes with a meaningful and funny twist. As June marks Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, the duo opens up with their signature health check-in, but this time, the conversation dives even deeper into the often-overlooked topic of mental health in men—especially Black men. They discuss how the culture around masculinity, sports, and the “man up” mentality can be both empowering and damaging, especially when it comes to expressing emotions, managing stress, and seeking help.
MH & EJ talk candidly about the importance of checking in with your brothers, creating safe spaces for vulnerability, and breaking the stigma surrounding therapy and mental health support within the Black community. They touch on the pressures men face in everyday life—from family and work responsibilities to navigating identity in today’s world—and how all of this impacts mental well-being.
Then, the attention shifts to something that requires its own mental health evaluation: being a New York Knicks fan. With MH proudly repping as the show’s resident die-hard Knicks supporter, the fellas take a light-hearted but real look at the emotional rollercoaster that is the Knicks experience. From postseason letdowns and questionable trades to the eternal hope for a championship run, this episode asks the real question: “Knicks fans… are y’all really okay?”
Expect honesty, hilarious takes, emotional insight, and of course—plenty of basketball talk. Whether you’re a Knicks lifer, a fan of the NBA, or just someone who values authentic conversations about mental wellness, this episode blends humor and heart in a way only Black in Sports can deliver.
