The 2024 elections are only three months away, and turning up at the polls is critical. But the complex landscape of voter ID laws across the U.S. can make voting a challenge. This week, Imara takes a look at the proliferation of these laws, and the potential disenfranchisement of trans voters whose name, gender markers, and appearance may not match voter registration records. First, she talks with NBC Out reporter Jo Yurcaba about the barriers to updating government IDs across different states and the potential impacts on everything from school board elections to the presidential race. Next, she’s joined by Josie Caballero from Advocates for Trans Equality, who shares advice and resources to help make sure everyone is able to cast their ballot in November.
