Hey!!!! Welcome, Welcome, Welcome To BLACK TO THE FUTURE PODCAST! We are so pleased you could join us here today! On this podcast we will discussing various topics through a Black, Queer, Feminist Lens. Our goal is elevate, educate, and empower those of us in the Black Queer community, and also to help our supporters and allies to become more knowledgeable about what we need as far as support!
On this episode Mikey & Xay Dé chat about the Hallmark Holiday of Love, Devotion, Chocolates, & Cupid – Valentine’s Day! They uncover the history of the holiday, and compare its roots to how we interpret it today. They speak very candidly about their own histories surrounding the holiday, and once again uncover the complications of this holiday in the realm of being a Black, Queer person. At the core of the celebration, most agree that “Love” is the message, and with that in mind, these two divulge their thoughts and feelings about the concept of Love.
In addition to this, with it being February – Black History Month – they chat at the beginning about how the celebration of Black people in America has grown and the more it grows, the more it challenges the traditional of Cisgender-Heterosexual-White-Patriarch. Xay also briefly speaks about her campaign for “Ready, Set, PrEP” in which she created an advertisement for the HIV suppressant medication, PrEP! This ties into National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) on February 7th, and into our previous episode #10 – HIV Awareness. Oh! And apparently the Super Bowl happened this recording took place.
