In this episode, Ekemini and Christina are sitting at the table with Dr. Michael Robinson to talk about Black men’s mental health. Truth’s Table has always been a strong advocate for mental health support and care, so it’s only right that we also talk about the importance of this for our Black brothas.
Michael Robinson’s research interests address the health and well-being of African Americans and other underserved populations, particularly in relation to substance abuse and mental disorders. Robinson’s work has appeared in publications such as the Journal of Social Work Education and “The Handbook of African American Health: Social and Behavioral Interventions.” He is currently serving a three year appointment as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Social Work Education. He has also assisted the Council on Social Work Education through appointments to the Council for Racial Ethnic and Cultural Diversity and the Commission for Diversity and Social and Economic Justice.
He currently directs the school’s Maymester program in Northern Ireland and is the social work unit coordinator for the Marriage and Family Therapy Certificate Program.Robinson’s teaching philosophy centers on experiential and team-based learning. His students’ community engagement projects foster self-respect and dignity among marginalized populations while helping students apply textbook lessons to real-life situations. Pull up a chair and have a seat at the table with us!
