Authority – The power to influence or command thought, opinion, or behavior.

Influence – the power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways.

Many of us have something that we are good at or something that we are knowledgeable about. We can have all this knowledge and "know how" and still have no influence. When a person uses what they know to inform or teach that's a great way to establish their authority in that particular area. However, this will involve showing up consistently and gaining the trust of the audience needs what you have. This audience won't know this until you show up.
