Bible Study & Devotional Day 57

📌Read Today’s Passages (February 26, 2022)

Guiding Scripture: Mark 8:27-30: Jesus and his disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” 28 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets.”
29 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah.” 30 But Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

🔴 A Passing Grade

Contributing Writer: Joshua Slaughter

Jesus wanted to test the disciples, a pop quiz if you will. He wanted to know if the disciples were gaining anything during their journey. They’ve been through a lot at this point, with more to come in the future.

In my opinion, a notable point is the other names they mention: John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets of old. And I do wonder if they had moments where they thought Jesus could be someone new.

Direct Question

Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say I am?” (Mark 8:29a)
