Episode 147: National Association of African-American Studies

For today’s episode, Tyrell and Daphne welcome Dr. Lemuel Berry, the co-founder and executive director of the National Association of African American Studies. During the interview, they discuss the foundation and evolution of the National Association of African American Studies (38:15) and its role in shaping the recent ethnic studies movement (41:18). Dr. Berry then makes the case for Black studies on college campuses (44:40), shares his thoughts on critical White studies (49:30), and provides insight into the burden that Black faculty face on college campuses (53:17). They close the episode by discussing NAAAS initiatives (1:00:01), the  2021 NAAAS conference (1:05:50), and the 2020 election (1:13:20).
