Schadenfreude is when you feel good watching someone else fail. In this episode, I break down why that feeling shows up so often, especially when a public figure falls from the top. People call it justice, but many times it is really about restoring their own psychological balance.
When someone who seemed above everyone else crashes, it makes some observers feel equal again. The hierarchy feels corrected. I explain why we attach to people at the top, and why we also feel satisfied when they fall. It is two sides of the same psychological coin.
