Big news in the real estate and mortgage world: Fannie Mae just dropped the minimum 620 credit-score requirement for loans submitted through its Desktop Underwriter® (DU®) system, effective for new case files created on or after November 16, 2025.
This move opens the door for borrowers with thinner credit histories and shifts the focus from a hard number to DU’s overall risk-assessment model. Lenders still must pull credit scores for every borrower, but from now on DU will use a composite approach rather than a fixed minimum.
