Two of the three people taken into custody Monday night in connection with a woman’s death have been charged with capital murder. The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department said Schorey L. Ross, 19, and Derrick Nettles, 26, have been charged in the shooting death of Mya King, 23. A third person, Kenneth McGowan is charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon. Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp said shots were fired about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Stainback Street. Officers and deputies heard the shots and were able to quickly arrest Nettles and Ross. He said McGowan was in a car with King. The sheriff said robbery was the motive for the shooting and King was caught in the middle of gunfire. Kemp said King’s 15-month-old child was in the backseat of the car. Nettles, McGowan and Ross made their initial court appearances before Justice Court Judge Tobey Bartee Tuesday.
