DoorDash’s New Tipping Policies, J. Cole vs Soulja Boy, and Violent Protests Are Breaking Out In Bangladesh

Black Podcasting - DoorDash’s New Tipping Policies, J. Cole vs Soulja Boy, and Violent Protests Are Breaking Out In Bangladesh

In this episode, Amanda Seales covers a variety of news and topics. She discusses how the handling of the war in Gaza by President Biden might affect young voters’ turnout in the upcoming elections. DoorDash is warning customers that they may receive slower service if they don’t tip their drivers, a move aimed at encouraging better compensation for delivery personnel. The episode also touches on issues like the Supreme Court’s decision regarding domestic abusers’ rights to gun ownership and the recent beef between Soulja Boy and J. Cole. Moreover, there’s a segment on the theft of oxtails by two Texas men and their humorous yet somewhat impractical approach to it. It also highlights significant legal issues and features an amusing “Issa Black Pop Quiz” to round out the episode.

FOLLOW ALONG AS WE COVER:

(02:35) – The leaders of progressive groups focused on mobilizing young voters are warning President Biden that his handling of the war in Gaza could depress turnout in a demographic that’s already notoriously difficult to energize on Election Day.

(08:19) – If you are thinking of skimping on a DoorDash tip, do so at your own risk. DoorDash is testing a new system and warning their customers that you may get bad or slow service if you don’t tip your driver. If you try to place an order through the DoorDash app without leaving a tip, you may get this pop-up: “Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered — are you sure you want to continue?”

(21:27) – Levi’s and H&M are among top global clothing brands to suffer production halts in Bangladesh, after days of violent protests by workers demanding higher wages. Bangladesh’s 3,500 garment factories account for around 85 percent of the South Asian country’s $55 billion annual exports, supplying many of the world’s top names in fashion. But conditions are dire for many of the sector’s four million workers, the vast majority of whom are women whose monthly wages start at 8,300 taka ($75).

(26:33) – Soulja Boy has had a change of heart after going at J. Cole for “dissing” him. Last week, J. Cole went on Lil Yachty’s podcast and had this to say about Soulja Boy’s emergence in hip hop.

(32:20) – BIG UP – To TWO TEXAS men who “allegedly” stole over $1,000 worth of Ox Tails– for being modern-day Robin Hoods and doing the Lord’s work (as we get closer to Thanksgiving). Two Texas men were arrested for allegedly making off with almost 50 packs of expensive cuts of meat from various grocery stores. The oxtails, shrimp, lamb chops, steaks, and brisket reportedly came from four separate stores– Walmart, H-E-B, Food Town, and Kroger. STORES BE RUNNING OUT OF ISH! THIS IS GOOD OLE’ PREPAREDNESS AND FORESIGHT. FURTHERMORE, STORES HAVE BEEN PRICE GOUGING OXTAILS. I AM CONVINCED THEY WERE GOING TO SELL THEM AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE TO THE HOOD!

(37:28) – We’ll go to the phone lines.

(39:43) -COMING UP THIS HOUR IN BLACKURATE NEWS:

(41:49) – The Supreme Court seemed likely this week to preserve a federal law that prohibits people under domestic violence restraining orders from having guns. The case before the court involves a Texas man, Zackey Rahimi, who was accused of hitting his girlfriend during an argument in a parking lot and later threatening to shoot her.

(45:26) – Issa Black Pop Quiz.

(50:37) – Supreme Goes to the polls. #ElectionDay

(55:19) – IT’S TIME TO LISTEN LAUGH AND LEARN… I HAVE THE WORD FOR THE DAY…. AND THE WORD OF THE DAY IS… COCKAMAMIE. IT’S AN ADJECTIVE USED TO DESCRIBE SOMETHING RIDICULOUS, SILLY OR INCREDIBLE.
