Compare/Contrast: Jeffrey Toobin And What Happened To Vanessa Williams Are Very, Very Different

Jeffrey Toobin tweeted yesterday that he got fired from The New Yorker after 27 years as a writer there. He had been fired for masturbating during a Zoom video work meeting. A number of people, mostly men and some women, tweeted sympathetic words to Toobin. Omar Moore looks at subconscious and overt salutes to toxic masculinity and patriarchy—and contrasts the sympathetic responses (in some quarters) to the white male Toobin to the vitriol, hatred, racism, misogyny, violation against the Black woman (and iconic legend) Vanessa Williams from many in the public, the press and by the powerful in 1983 and 1984. Omar salutes Ms. Williams, whom he met in 1993. Plus: The myth that Republicans are afraid of Donald Trump (they really aren’t.) November 12, 2020.
